Ionic liquids (ILs) as promising absorbents for SO2 capture in flue gas desulfurization have been extensively studied. In this work, a multisite absorption strategy was used to synthesize ether-linked diamine protic ionic liquids (EDPILs) for efficient SO2 capture. The prepared EDPILs containing ether-linkage chain exhibited superior SO2 absorption relative to conventional protic ionic liquids

Abstract. Desulfurization of natural gas is achieved commercially by absorption with liquid amine solutions. Adsorption technology could potentially replace the solvent extraction process, particularly for the emerging shale gas wells with production rates that are generally lower than that from the large conventional reservoirs, if a superior adsorbent (sorbent) is developed.
However, the effect of material structure on desulfurization performance of the absorbents has rarely been systematically studied so far, which severely restricts the development and application of novel adsorbents with features of high efficiency, environmental benign and low cost.
